Sharan Gopalan

Hi, my name is Sharan and I’m doing my PhD in Kinesiology under the joint supervision of Dr. Sam Liu, in the Digital Health Lab, and Dr. Jean Buckler. I discovered my love for soccer at an early age and my childhood ambition to play professional soccer has since turned into a passion for coaching soccer to youth and promoting health through physical activity.

The goal with my PhD is to explore ways of promoting the well-being of girls and women involved in sport and regular physical activity and creating greater awareness and responsibility among the various stakeholders.

I’m from India and I grew up in Mumbai. I’ve had the good fortune to study, work, and coach around the world, having lived in the US (Raleigh, NC) and Germany (Konstanz). You’re most likely to find me out on the soccer field, especially on a warm, sunny day!
