HIV In My Day
Four decades after the start of a pandemic that has claimed 40 million lives, University of Victoria researchers are putting the stories of British Columbians who lived through the early days of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the spotlight. HIV In My Day, a community-based oral history project led by School of Public Health and Social Policy Associate Professor Nathan Lachowsky, captures the stories of 120 long-term HIV survivors and caregivers.
HIV research and art intersect
HIV In My Day, a community-based oral history project that gathered the stories of HIV survivors and caregivers during the early years of BC’s HIV/AIDS epidemic, has been adapted into a play. In My Day will premiere in Vancouver at The Cultch theatre, the day after World AIDS Day. The play takes its script from almost 120 oral history interviews collected from 2017 to 2020 as part of a University of Victoria-led research project.
2022 Leiden Rankings
The Ring
International research rankings released today by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands once again show that UVic researchers consistently publish a greater concentration of high-impact findings based on international collaborations than any other school or institute in North America—a distinction it’s held for 11 of the last 12 years. In mathematics and computer science, UVic is the top university in Canada, and number 50 globally, for its proportion of high-impact research findings. UVic also scores second nationally for research in physical sciences and engineering, closely tailing the University of Toronto.
UVic's health research edge
UVic launched the UVic Health Initiative in 2019. Developed after a year of campus-wide consultation, the goal is to advance lifelong health while enhancing the quality and raising the profile of health research, programs and related activities at the university.
UVic research gets $3.4M boost
UVic health researchers get a $3.4-million boost—success that was supported through the efforts of the UVic Health Initiative, which is raising the profile and quality of health research across campus.

Physical distance impact on GBQT2+ men
How communities emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic with health and well-being intact is a key question for a University of Victoria researcher, who is studying ways isolation has impacted gay, bisexual, queer, trans and Two Spirit (GBQT2+) men in Canada.
