Stock-tober food drive a great success

- Student Affairs

Thank you to members of our campus community who helped make the sixth annual Student Affairs Stock-tober food drive for the UVSS Food Bank and Free Store a great success. Volunteers collected 2,335 lbs of food and other much needed non-perishable items—more than doubling last year's total of 1,114 lbs.

This brings our six-year donation total to an amazing 9,674 lbs. Additionally, $440 was donated by offices across campus.

This year, 32 offices from across UVic who participated in Stock-tober. Eight of these office teams contributed over 100 pounds each. By weight contributed, the top departments were:

  1. Office of the Registrar (352 lbs)
  2. Athletics and Recreation (239 lbs)
  3. Human Resources (235 lbs)
  4. Campus Services (221 lbs)
  5. Continuing Studies (116 lbs)
  6. Human and Social Development (114 lbs)

Congratulations to these departments, and to every department who helped make this year a success!

It is important to remember that the need for donations is ongoing. Hundreds of students visit the UVSS Food Bank & Free Store each week, and much of what the food bank needs (e.g. fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products) requires cash donations. While this event remains incredibly important for gathering donations, Stock-tober also serves as a reminder of the importance of the Food Bank and Free Store in the daily lives of our student community.
