An incident of sexualized violence against a community member was reported to Campus Security on Sept. 27. The Saanich Police Department is investigating.

The assault was reported to have happened in the 1st floor men's washroom of the Cornett Building on the afternoon of Sept. 26. A male, aged 60+ and described as heavy-set, sexually assaulted a male community member, then fled on foot.

We are sharing this information out of care and concern for the campus community and out of an abundance of caution as the perpetrator remains unidentified. Anyone who might have information about this incident is asked to contact the Saanich Police Department at 250-475-4321.

Campus Security patrols all parts of campus 24 hours a day and will be closely monitoring the area. UVic is committed to the safety, wellbeing and support of all members of the campus community. Support is available.

Concerns about sexualized violence on campus are handled by Campus Security and the Sexualized Violence Resource Office.

Students can also book an appointment to meet with a counsellor, nurse, physician, or spiritual care provider at the Student Wellness Centre. SupportConnect is also available for 24/7 student mental health support. Staff and faculty may wish to connect with our Employee & Family Assistance Program for counselling and referral services.
