UVic Invites Feedback On New Parkade Options At Open Houses

The University of Victoria wants to hear from the community over the coming days as part of an expanded consultation process regarding the new Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities (CARSA) and related parkade.

Five new parkade design options will be on display at drop-in, interactive open houses on March 8, 10 and 14. Staff from UVic, architects, and traffic study consultants will be available to answer questions.

The five options are:

A. Reducing the height and capacity of the parkade attached to CARSA by two storeys
B. Reducing the height by two storeys by constructing the parkade attached
to CARSA with two of the storeys below ground
C. Relocating the parkade to Parking Lot 2 (near McKinnon Building)
with no parkade attached to CARSA
D. Reducing the height and capacity of the parkade attached to CARSA
by two storeys and building a parkade on Parking Lot 2 (near McKinnon Building)
     to provide additional capacity
E. Reducing the height and capacity of the parkade attached to CARSA by
two storeys and building a parkade on Parking Lot 4 (near Centennial Stadium)
     to provide additional capacity

“We had been out earlier in the community with the proposed design for the CARSA project and had some very specific feedback around the original parkade size and design and potential traffic impacts,” says Kristi Simpson, associate vice-president responsible for campus planning. “We listened to those concerns and developed several parkade options in response. We invite the public to attend the open houses and provide feedback.”

The open house schedule is:
March 8 – Lambrick Park Secondary School: 5 – 8pm
March 10 – St. Aidan’s United Church: 12 – 3pm
March 14 – Queenswood: 4 – 8pm

Additional detailed information and feedback forms will be available online at www.uvic.ca/carsa/ (as of 5 p.m. on March 8th.) Feedback will be accepted until March 30.
