Bike to Work Week 2011

UVic was again a major sponsor of the 16th annual Bike to Work Week, May 30-June 5, 2011. UVic faculty, students and staff accounted for 44 of the total 615 teams registered in the Victoria area. The university hosted two free bike skills courses and two celebration stations, with free refreshments, bike tune-ups, bike engraving and prize draws. Participation at all celebration stations in Victoria was much higher than in past years. The Commuter Challenge saw 20 cyclist and driver teams compete to see who could get downtown first. Fifteen of the 20 cyclists outclassed their motorized counterparts by an average of two to three minutes, proving that cycling is an efficient way to commute to work.
