Stock-tober food drive a great success

October 31, 2019 - Notice

Thank you to members of our campus community who helped make the sixth annual Student Affairs Stock-tober food drive for the UVSS Food Bank and Free Store a great success. Volunteers collected 2,335 lbs of food and other much needed non-perishable items—more than doubling last year's total of 1,114 lbs. Additionally, $440 was donated by offices across campus.

Day in the life: Karla Stout

When it comes to dressing for success, Karla Stout knows how to get it right. As the head of wardrobe for the Department of Theatre and a volunteer rober since 1994, Stout has ensured thousands of graduating students look their best when they cross the stage at convocation. Beyond draping hoods, adjusting tassels and soothing jangled nerves, Stout has also helped a variety of UVic presidents and chancellors look tip-top for the big day.

Heavy snow, not light work

February's heavy snowfall was exceptional in more ways than one on campus. Even while most people enjoyed a “snow day” when the campus was closed late afternoon Monday, Feb. 11 and the following day, there were those who walked, carefully drove or carpooled to work so that residence students got fed, roads were plowed, pathways were cleared and payroll got processed.

Eddie Mukahanana has been graced with the likes of a Zimbabwe national team uniform and a professional football career in Russia. A quick Google search for his name takes you to a Wikipedia page that makes you wonder what it’s been like to go from being an international student on a sports scholarship to his current position as an Admissions Officer at UVic.

Day in the Life: Alicia Kaiser

When Alicia Kaiser arrived at UVic in 2007 to pursue her degree in English and professional writing, she didn’t have a clear plan for the future. Eleven years later, she has found her niche as a member of the university's core communications and marketing team, and UVic's first and only digital signage coordinator.
