International research rankings released today by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands once again show that UVic researchers consistently publish a greater concentration of high-impact findings based on international collaborations than any other school or institute in North America—a distinction it’s held for eight of the last 12 years. In mathematics and computer science, UVic is the top university in Canada, and number 50 globally, for its proportion of high-impact research findings. UVic also scores second nationally for research in physical sciences and engineering, closely tailing the University of Toronto.

UVic adds billions to provincial economy, benefits extend throughout society

June 20, 2022 - Media release

The University of Victoria’s activities, students and alumni help generate $3.3 billion to BC’s economy and overall prosperity, an independent study and analysis has determined. The independent report by Emsi Burning Glass, released today, indicates that UVic’s total impact in BC supported 40,595 jobs. The economic impact for Greater Victoria is $1.8 billion, or one of out of every nine jobs.

2022 QS subject rankings

April 6, 2022 - The Ring

The 2022 QS World University Rankings by Subject, released April 6, show that the University of Victoria is recognized for world-class performance in a growing number of academic fields. QS placed UVic among the world’s top 300 universities in 15 fields, up from 10 last year, with one field, geology, among the top 100.

A global impact ranking released today by Times Higher Education (THE) evaluating universities’ global contributions towards meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) puts UVic among the world’s top tier of leaders in climate action, and among the world’s top 100 institutions overall in contributing to a sustainable future for the planet. THE ranked UVic fourth among the world’s universities for climate action—meaning research and action taken to understand and respond to the global challenge of climate change.
