Appointment of Vice-President Finance & Operations—a message from President Hall

- UVic President Kevin Hall

Dear colleagues,

I am thrilled to announce that Kristi Simpson has been appointed as vice-president finance and operations, effective June 1, 2022.

After an extensive international search and considering a strong field of candidates, the search committee was unanimous in their recommendation. Kristi’s appointment was approved by the Board of Governors this morning.

This appointment was conducted in accordance with the Procedures for the Appointment of the Vice-President Finance and Operations (Policy GV0315). I'd like to thank the members of the search committee for the significant effort they invested in ensuring the best possible candidate for the job. I'd also like to share the committee's gratitude to everyone who took part in this process by providing input into the position description and valuable feedback.

About Kristi Simpson

I know that for many of us, Kristi needs no introduction, but I will share some highlights of her career. Kristi Simpson has been involved in educational financial administration for most of her career including within two school districts, the University of Northern British Columbia and the University of Victoria for the last 19 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Victoria and holds CPA and CA designations.

Kristi has been UVic's associate vice-president financial planning and operations since 2005 and was appointed acting VPFO in December 2020. Those of us who have worked closely with her know her to be a principled leader who uses her extraordinary integrity in the many decisions she makes on a daily basis. She is committed, collegial and collaborative, and exceptionally experienced across the entire finance and operations portfolio. The breadth of her experience as a leader at UVic has given her a clear understanding of institutional priorities and how the VPFO team can contribute to achieving these priorities moving into the future.

We are extremely lucky that Kristi will continue leading the finance and operations portfolio, and I know you will share in my congratulations!

Sincerely,
Kevin
