The Ring is the University of Victoria’s community newspaper. Its purpose is:

• to advance the mission and objectives of the university as articulated in the strategic plan
• to inform members of the campus community about news and events of interest to them and
• to help build a sense of community among faculty, staff and students at UVic.

Persia Khan, who graduates this month with a BSc in geography, grew up surrounded by big mountain landscapes in Alberta. Her honours research project investigated how mammals use time in high disturbance landscapes in the Canadian Rockies. She also had the opportunity to be a research assistant with UVic’s Mountain Legacy Project.

When Alicia Kaiser arrived at UVic in 2007 to pursue her degree in English and professional writing, she didn’t have a clear plan for the future. Eleven years later, she has found her niche as a member of the university's core communications and marketing team, and UVic's first and only digital signage coordinator.

When Paige Quinn first moved to Vancouver Island to start her undergraduate degree, she intended on becoming an elementary school teacher. She had always loved working with children and grew up with a mother who taught grade one. But taking one of UVic's Exercise Science, Physical Health and Education classes hooked her on the program. She graduates this month.

Bike-assist powers student to Tesla co-op

Engineering student Simon Park's Caboost invention—a trailer which converts any bicycle into an e-bike—helped him stand out to co-op recruiters at Tesla. Park is one of 44 UVic students who have secured co-ops with the energy and automobile technology company.
