Provincial health officer introduces restrictions for Lower Mainland

- University of Victoria

You may have heard about the November 7 order from the Provincial Health Officer (PHO) that restricts the level of social interactions within the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, and the PHO’s guidance that travel into or out of these regions should be limited to essential travel until Nov. 23, 2020. This is in response to a rapidly rising number of COVID-19 cases in the Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health regions.

While the November 7 order does not affect UVic’s operations at this time, we strongly discourage non-essential travel to the Lower Mainland until at least November 23.

The Government of Canada and BC’s provincial health officer have advised against all non-essential travel outside of Canada, including the USA. In addition, international travellers are required to self-isolate for 14 days on their return home.

The university has implemented plans, protocols and resources to protect the health and safety of the UVic community during the COVID-19 pandemic and as we resume more in-person activities on campus. Please continue to do your part to keep everyone safe, including: follow your area’s Safe Work Plan, maintain your physical distance, do your daily COVID-19 self assessment, stay home when you feel unwell, wear your mask, and wash your hands frequently.
