Expert on the cocoa industry for World Chocolate Day

The following University of Victoria expert is available to media in advance of World Chocolate Day (July 7) to discuss her new research project, Follow the Bean: Tracing Zero Deforestation Cocoa as published in The Conversation Canada:

Sophia Carodenuto (geography) is an expert in de-forestation issues associated with cocoa production. Her research shows that despite more efforts by companies to be sustainable, it is nearly impossible for most chocolate consumers to know the amount of tropical deforestation associated with their sweet luxury. Carodenuto identifies three of the main challenges to halting the deforestation embedded in global cocoa supply chains. (Contact by email at carodenuto@uvic.ca )
