UVic retains STARS gold sustainability standard

UVic has been rated as one of North America’s most sustainable universities. In the 2019 Sustainable Campus Index (SCI), published by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), UVic tied for fourth place—with a score of 96.2 per cent—in the Air and Climate category, an assessment of greenhouse gas emissions and mitigation and outdoor air quality.

The SCI recognized top-performing colleges and universities across North America in 17 sustainability impact areas, as measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS). In 2017, UVic was the third Canadian university to achieve the STARS gold rating. Today there are 123 universities ranked in the Gold category.
