A welcoming community

Our program creates space for Indigenous and non-Indigenous students to build community and form transformative alliances that support community resurgence and decolonization.

Community

Honouring excellence, tradition and community

Indigenous studies is an exciting area of study that emphasizes Indigenous ways of knowing and learning. We explore the social, political, cultural and historical contexts that shape the lives and resistance of Indigenous peoples—here and around the world.

Our programs and courses encourage intercultural understanding on campus, in community and on the land. We welcome Indigenous and non-Indigenous students.

We acknowledge and respect the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples on whose traditional territory the University of Victoria stands, and the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.
