James Davey is a first year MA History student focusing on environmental protest movements in British Columbia. His thesis, supervised by Richard Rajala, will focus on Clayoquot Sound and the Great Bear Rainforest. Specifically, he aims to unpack the ideological justifications, rhetoric, frames of reference and actions of developers, environmental conservationists, the indigenous population and workers associated with resource extraction. Areas of interest include: unionism, power relations, and the effect of neoliberalism on environmental degradation. He completed his BA at McGill University and is looking forward to continuing his studies in Victoria.
