Under the supervision of Dr. James Tully my research focuses on the ongoing functions of colonialism and imperialism in the context of Canada and, more broadly, the global. I am using the work of Michel Foucault from 1980-1984 as a way to think through these processes by looking to four conceptual fields in his thought: practices of freedom, parrhesia etho-poetics, and care/ethics. By looking to these fields, and how they mediate through one another, we are given a new set of strategies to think through the multiplicity of pressing global crises indicative of colonial and imperial regimes, processes, and power struggles.
