Dr. Stephen Ross, Stephanie Erickson, Riley Campbell, Tilda Bron, and Christina Thomson receive HUMS Həuistəŋ Award
Congratulations to Dr. Stephen Ross, Stephanie Erickson, Tilda Bron, Riley Campbell, and Christina Thomas for winning the Həuistəŋ Award—an award that recognizes members of the Faculty of Humanities who have made outstanding contributions towards the UVic Indigenous Plan.
Since 2022, the group has worked tirelessly alongside renowned storyteller Richard Van Camp (Tłı̨chǫ Dene) to establish institutional support and infrastructure for the Indigenous Storyteller in Residence program—an initiative dedicated to uplifting Indigenous storytelling, knowledge, collaboration, and learning. The group’s robust planning and engagement have culminated in Richard’s leading two undergraduate courses and one graduate course (open to the broader community as well), multiple writing workshops and one-on-one mentorship sessions with students, an Evening of Storytelling event, and visits to W̱SÁNEĆ College and the En’owkin Centre to build connections and invite local Indigenous students and community members into the initiative.
