Dr. Thomas Stuart studied English literature as a UVic undergraduate and has returned as an instructor in 2020 to teach academic reading, writing, and research. He has cultivated a passion for teaching throughout his graduate studies that he is thrilled to bring home to his alma mater. He loves to find new approaches to teaching: every student differs and teaching calls for adaptive, open, and self-reflective approaches now more than ever.

Dr. Stuart recently defended his PhD dissertation on affect theory and disorientation in 19th-century mystery fiction. He has a broad range of research interests, from 19th-century gothic minstrel performance to occult writing and late-Victorian narratives of demonic dolls. In general, though, he errs toward gothic narratives of crime and Spiritualism. He has published his research in Victorian Studies and has guest-edited a special issue of Horror Studies on internet horror and the Digital Humanities.
