Pathways to Student Success

The award I received will support a semester of learning field techniques and biological research skills, in the beautiful and diverse ecosystems at Bamfield Marine Science Centre. I am excited to gain experience directly from the passionate instructors, as well as be able to connect with a peer group that are driven by scientific curiosity and conservation. Beyond financial support, this award represents years of dedication to my studies. The opportunity to further my education at Bamfield is, without exaggeration, a dream come true. I am grateful for donors that support journeys like mine."

This award provides more than financial relief. It gives me the time and stability to focus on work that is deeply rooted in my family, my community, and our Dene Kedǝ́ language. It encourages me to keep moving forward and to treat this work with the care it deserves. After completing my Master’s, I plan to continue working with the many Elder recordings held in my community. There are more than 100 recordings, each carrying important teachings, stories, and knowledge. My hope is to help bring these forward in ways that support families, programs, and future generations."

I am a mature student returning to UVic after 10 years out of post-secondary school. I am the mother of a five-year-old daughter, a full-time student, and I also hold two part-time jobs. Your gift to me is life changing. The level of stress that this lifts off my shoulders will have an immense impact on my studies.
