Elizabeth Buckley School Award

Elizabeth Buckley School has established an annual student award at UVic to support students with physical or learning disabilities. The award will be facilitated through the Victoria Foundation.

“UVic is honoured to receive this generous gift from Elizabeth Buckley School. This support ensures that UVic can build upon Elizabeth Buckley School’s legacy by continuing to support and empower students with diverse abilities,” says Associate Vice President of Alumni and Development Tom Zsolnay.

The Elizabeth Buckley School closed in June of 2019 after more than 30 years’ of service to the Victoria community. Initially established by Nancy Bourey, a teacher and Speech and Language Pathologist, the school focused on supporting students who were deaf and hard of hearing. Eventually, the school changed to serve as a STEaM school (Science, Technology, engineering, art, and mathematics). The name Elizabeth Buckley honoured Bourey’s grandmother, who was a teacher in New York.
