Music education legend establishes new scholarship

Retired Oak Bay High music teacher Dave Dunnet has made a generous gift to establish a new music education scholarship in the Faculty of Fine Arts. Dunnet, who is somewhat of a legend in Music Education locally, was Bandmaster of the Victoria Boys' Band at age 15, and later taught music at Oak Bay High for 28 years. He also held roles at the university as an adjunct lecturer, teacher in residence and senior instructor, and was awarded the title "Emeritus" on his retirement after 27 years of service. Former Oak Bay High students and their parents established the annual "Dave Ian Dunnet Music Education Scholarship" and in 2015, the new theatre/concert hall in Oak Bay was named in Dunnet's honour.
