Bunbury-Sheffield Global Engagement Award

In the spring of 2025, I had the privilege to participate in UVic’s inaugural exchange with Jigme Singye Wanghuck School of Law in Paro, Bhutan. During my exchange, I was overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown to me by both the staff of the law school and my fellow students. I was saddened to hear of the difficulties faced by Bhutanese students planning to participate in the reciprocal leg of the exchange program, due to the great disparity in the cost of living between Bhutan and Canada. As such, I sought the financial support of friends and family to establish an award to support students from the global south on exchange with UVic, my own resources having been rapidly depleted by said elevated cost of living upon my return to Canada. It is my hope that this award will help to ease the burden of incoming exchange students and encourage further student exchanges between UVic and law schools outside of the global north, facilitating an exchange of expertise, ideas, and perspectives.
