Maureen de Burgh Memorial Scholarship
Maureen de Burgh died on November 11, 1985 at the age of 37. Her association with the University of Victoria and with the field of marine biology extended over many years. Prior to completing her PhD at Trinity College, Dublin, she studied as an undergraduate at UVic.
She then worked at the Barnfield Marine Station, did a postdoctorate at UCLA, taught biology at UVic and was a pioneering contributor to the deep-sea, hydrothermal vent project led by her friend and colleague, Verena Tunnicliffe of UVic's Biology Department.
