Lloyd Milburn Innovation Award

Lloyd Milburn was born in 1937 in Nanaimo, BC and was raised in Victoria, BC. Having had polio at age 15, Lloyd spent rehab time at Queen Alexandra Solarium. He didn’t let his health slow him down. He managed well with crutches and a wheelchair and later a hydraulic lift and scooter. He learned to drive a car with special controls and was an avid boater. Lloyd had a good job working for the government at the Ministry of Forestry making forestry maps and stayed there until retirement. Lloyd had a good circle of friends, was part of a Bridge group, and enjoyed baking bread and cookies which he shared generously with others. His early experiences left him with a desire to support youth with disabilities and help break down barriers for them. Lloyd passed away on August 2, 2020, and is fondly remembered by friends and family as a friendly and approachable man of longevity, consistency and generosity.
