Joyce Green and James Johnson Scholarship (Qukin)

Joyce Green is Professor Emerita of Political Science (retired) at the University of Regina. She is a citizen of the Ktunaxa Nation and a member of Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡiʔit (Tobacco Plains Indian Band). Dr. Green is of English, Ktunaxa, and Cree-Scots Métis ancestry.

Jim Johnson is a retired lawyer hailing from Paswegin and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. His practice ranged from prosecutorial work for the Saskatchewan government, to the Saskatchewan Legal Aid Commission, where he specialized in family and in criminal law. He is of Norwegian, Scottish and Irish ancestry. He is recognized by the Ktunaxa Citizenship Code as ⱡakⱡak aqⱡsmaknik̓ (someone who is related to, but not themselves, Ktunaxa).

Joyce and Jim live in ʔamak̓is Ktunaxa (Ktunaxa territory), the unceded and stolen territory of the Ktunaxa Nation; in ʔa·kisk̓aqⱡiʔit (“where two trails meet on the prairie”) (Cranbrook, B.C.).

Qukin (Raven, in Ktunaxa), is highly intelligent, often a teacher, family focused, and takes only what she needs to live. Joyce and Jim hope Qukin will be a model for scholarship holders.
