About Norha

Norha M. Villegas is a software engineer, researcher, educator, and academic leader whose work integrates software engineering research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and STEM education to address complex societal challenges.

Her research focuses on advancing software engineering methods for building intelligent, resilient, and trustworthy software-intensive systems that operate in dynamic and uncertain environments. Her work spans self-adaptive software systems, digital twins, context-aware computing, runtime models, and continuous software engineering. More recently, her research has explored the intersection of software engineering with Generative AI and quantum computing, including both the application of these technologies to software engineering and the engineering of AI- and quantum-enabled software systems. Her research has been conducted in collaboration with partners including IBM CAS Canada and has contributed foundational models and frameworks that have influenced research in dynamic context management, self-adaptive systems, and digital twins.

She is a Senior Member of the IEEE—the first woman in Colombia to achieve this distinction. In 2022, she received the Globant Women that Build – Global Digital Leader Award in recognition of her contributions to technology and engineering leadership. Her research contributions have also been recognized by industry partners, including IBM, and by the international software engineering research community through prestigious awards, invited talks, and competitive research collaborations.
