Undergraduate

Find your edge in UVic's Department of Sociology.

Why study sociology at UVic?

We encourage our sociology students to develop skills through practical involvement with research activities, public outreach and vibrant in-class discussion groups.

Studying alongside our diverse group of students and faculty will help you gain the skills you'll need to understand how social dynamics work and engage in social issues that have a vital impact on the world.

Here, you'll explore contemporary sociological topics such as:

  • families, health & aging
  • deviance, crime, & law
  • gender, sexuality & trans communities
  • social justice
  • environmental politics & climate change
  • corporate capitalism & globalization
  • migration & mobility
  • technology & media

Our programs

We offer general interest courses for students in other disciplines and degree programs that provide a strong foundation in sociology and its applications across a wide range of social issues.

Effective September 2017, there will be changing Sociology Major/Honours Gaduation Requirements.  Please see the new updates under the Programs tab.
