Support for instructors

Before you start polling students in class, it is important to consider which polling and scoring preferences will best suit your goals. The following settings can be configured within the i>clicker software:

How to poll students in class

  1. Double-click the i>clicker icon to start the program.
  2. The Welcome Screen appears. Select the desired course and click Choose.
  3. The i>clicker Home screen appears. Click Start session.
  4. The Session Toolbar appears in the top left corner of your computer screen. You can reposition the toolbar anywhere on your screen.
  5. When you are ready to start polling, have your students turn on their clickers then present the question and answer choices. If necessary, switch the question type shown on the Start button to match the type of question you are asking using the drop-down menu.

  6. Click the Start button to begin polling. When polling is active, the Start button switches to a Stop button and a timer appears. A counter on the far right of the toolbar displays how many students have voted. To end the polling session, click the Stop button on the toolbar.

  7. Click the Results Chart button Results chart button on the toolbar to view a graph of your students’ responses for the current question. The graph displays the percentage of total votes and number of votes for each answer choice.
  8. To designate a correct answer, simply click the bar for the correct response in the Results Chart. When the correct answer is indicated, it is shown in green and all incorrect answers are shown in red. Or you can also click the Correct Answer button on the Results Chart then select the checkbox next to the correct answer, and click Apply.

  9. To clear the correct answer, click the Correct Answer button and click Clear on the Correct Answer window.
  10. To change the chart type, click the Chart Type button and select a chart type from the drop-down menu. You can view responses in a horizontal bar chart (multiple choice only), vertical bar chart, pie chart (multiple choice only), or histogram (numeric only).
