Welcome to Online Learning!

If you’re new to online or blended learning, you may be interested in working through our Orientation to Online Learning course. This self-paced orientation will help you prepare for your online course. The resources and activities in this site will help you to get comfortable with the online learning platform where your courses are housed and become familiar with common difficulties for online learning and how to solve them.

What's in it for you?

Upon successful completion of this orientation, you will be able to:

  • navigate and use common features and tools in your online course,
  • make use of strategies for course success (e.g. time management, communication, group work),
  • know where and how to access key university services and systems and resources,
  • guard against identity and privacy issues,
  • create personal learning networks with other UVic students, and
  • start studying online with confidence.

How to complete this orientation

  • The orientation has four modules and will take you approximately 90 minutes to complete.
  • Each module has 3 steps: a self-assessment to help you gauge what you already know, a module packed with activities and helpful resources, and a final knowledge check to make sure you are ready to go. You are welcome to come back anytime during your course.
