Experimental particle physics
Prof. McPherson is the spokesperson for the Canadian group working on the ATLAS experiment at CERN. He has been active in the development and testing of the ATLAS "calorimeter" detectors which measure the energy and direction of particles produced in high-energy collision events, was the coordinator of the use of ATLAS software and computing tools for detector commissioning from 2004-2006, the overall ATLAS Data Quality coordinator 2006-2007, and the ATLAS Liquid Argon Calorimeter Data Quality coordinator from 2008-2010.
Previously, Prof. McPherson worked on the OPAL experiment at CERN and the experiment E787 at BNL.
