Crystal Tremblay
Connecting Indigenous peoples
During a two-week stay in Canada, UVic geography faculty and three Maasai from Tanzania exchanged cultural knowledge and practices with First Nations from the T’souke and Tla-o-qui-aht on Vancouver Island to the Selkirk and Carcross-Tagish peoples of the Yukon.
New study on charitable sector
The Victoria Foundation released new research on Nov. 27 about the economic and social impact of registered charities in our region. The new study, conducted by three UVic researchers, reveals that the civil society sector generated over $4 billion in economic activity in one year alone.
Report summarizes how UVic contributes to community
Community-based researcher Crystal Tremblay is intrigued by the threads that draw UVic and community together. She’s spent over 10 years collaborating with communities to address local challenges, such as an initiative that improved the safety and income generation of organized waste pickers in São Paulo, Brazil.
Celebrating excellence in teaching
At Fall Convocation the university honours the outstanding talent, dedication and creativity of the faculty members and other teaching staff who provide such a high quality of education to our students. “We are extremely proud of the recipients of this year’s awards for excellence in teaching,” says Vice-President Academic and Provost Reeta Tremblay. “On behalf of the university, I would like to congratulate and express our deep appreciation of these outstanding teachers who contribute so much to the lives of their students and to the value of a UVic education.”
