National day in honour of Dec. 6, 1989
On Dec. 6, UVic marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. The annual event and walk starts at 11:30 a.m., with classes cancelled for an hour and flags lowered.
Day of Remembrance and Action
The Ring
On Dec. 6, 1989, an armed gunman entered Polytechnique Montréal and shot 28 people, murdering 14 women and injuring 10 other women and four men. On Dec. 5, 2018, almost 30 years after the massacre, UVic came together for the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women—a day to remember the women who died in the massacre as well as countless others who have suffered violence.
