Celebrate Earth Day at the cycling festival

This coming Earth Day, April 22, the University of Victoria Sustainability Office is partnering with the District of Saanich to host the 3rd annual Saanich Cycling Festival. The festivities will take place between 11:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., in parking lot #10, and will feature entertainment, information displays and activities for young and old alike.

Hosted along with a number of other community organisations, the festival will feature a 4.9-km BIG family bike ride. The ride will depart from the Camosun College parking lot at 11:00 and arrive at UVic for 11:30.

For smaller cycling enthusiasts, there will be a slow paced children’s ride, complete with Saanich Police escort riders. Riders will depart from the east exit of UVic lot #10 at 11:00 for a 15-minute bike ride.

Throughout the event, musical entertainment will be provided by local artists Bijoux Du Bayou as well as the UVic Linguistic Department’s house band, Flat Rabbit. The Level Ground Coffee Company will be providing concessions.

Visit the official festival website to register and enter to win prizes. There will also be a bike rack prize awarded to a local school on behalf of the District of Saanich and the UVic Sustainability Office.

Remember, helmets are mandatory for all participants.
