Celebrating international education: UVic's first International Education Week

Learn about UVic's international opportunities, hear stories of international experiences and meet UVic experts during UVic' first celebration of International Education Week from Nov. 14 to 19. The Office of International Affairs is coordinating the week’s activities, which are free and open to the public.

Highlights include:

  • Centre for Global Studies Symposium: Global Interdependence and You, Monday, Nov. 14, from 12 to 2 p.m. in First Peoples House Ceremonial Hall. Leading experts working at UVic and throughout the world discuss international development and trends in global challenges, research and learning. Discover innovative action-oriented research happening at UVic. Followed by an open house from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the Centre for Global Studies (Sedgewick Building C wing).
  • For Our Daughters' Speaking Tour, Friday, Nov. 18, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in DSB C116. Four African girls who are recent high school graduates share their stories about the importance of supporting the education of girls. The speakers graduated from high school thanks to the assistance of the Create Change Foundation. The aim of their tour is to raise awareness and funding for thousands of girls who cannot pay school fees in Ghana.
  • African Eloquent Youth Celebration, Saturday, Nov. 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. in David Lam Auditorium (MAC A144). The third annual pageant brings together African youth from Greater Victoria to celebrate their heritage and show off their talent and public speaking skills in a three-round competition. The winner of each year’s pageant joins members of the African Heritage Association of Vancouver Island (AHAVI) to visit Victoria-area public schools and educate youth about African culture and the value of diversity.
