UVic researchers attract $5.7 million in 1999 NSERC research grants

Reseachers at the University of Victoria fared very well in this year's national competition for funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). New research grant proposals from 39 UVic scientists and engineers were approved for funding, for a total of $1,122,560, and a positive funding decision on three other projects is expected. In addition, 21 new proposals for research equipment grants were approved, for a total value of $1,062,685, with funding for another equipment grant proposal pending. These new grants are in addition to continuing NSERC funding totalling $3,537,208 for 116 ongoing UVic research projects.
"I am delighted that the latest NSERC results continue the very strong performance of UVic researchers established over the last few years. On a per researcher basis, they maintain UVic's position as one of the top ranking universities in the country for NSERC support. The funding will ensure UVic's capacity to sustain its recognition and reputation for research excellence in a broad range of areas in science and engineering," says Vice-President, Research, Dr. Martin Taylor.
