Debate democracy at public lecture series

Is our political system in need of a tune-up? Do voters have the power to affect change? Are they apathetic or apoplectic? Participate in an examination of our political system in the public lecture series "Strengthening Democracy" sponsored by the Leon and Thea Koerner Foundation, the faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences, the Division of Continuing Studies and the Victoria Branch of the World Federalists of Canada. Dr. Samuel Scully (Greek and Roman Studies) will chair the following presentations:

"Rethinking Canadian Democracy"--March 4, 7:30 p.m. Panelists: Dr. William Carroll, (Sociology) and Dr. Josie Schofield

"Liberalism and Democracy: Questions of Race, Gender, Ethnicity, Language, and Culture"--March 11, 7:30 p.m. with Dr. JoAnne Lee (Women's Studies)

"Options for Revitalizing Democracy in Canada"--March 18, 7:30 p.m. with Dr. Norman Ruff (Political Science). Admission to the lectures is free but call 472-4747 to register in advance. [PP]
