University flag to be lowered in honour of Ian Stewart

The university flag will be lowered on Thursday, June 22 in memory of former Chair of the Board of Governors, Dr. Ian Stewart. First appointed to the Board of Governors in 1976 and later as board chair, Stewart was pivotal in the formation of the Vikes athletics and recreation programs. Recognized for his commitment with an honorary doctor of laws in 1993, Stewart was awarded the title of Honorary Patron in 1996. He later served as honorary chair for the capital campaign supporting UVic’s new Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities.

A memorial service will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 3778 West 28th Avenue in Vancouver on June 22 at 2 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the University Club of Victoria at 2 p.m. on July 31.
