Opening the Door on Action to End Homelessness

Housing for those in need is a key priority for Victoria and other urban centers in Canada. On Sunday, May 4, members of the public are invited to join UVic nursing professor Bernie Pauly, coordinator of the UVic Working Group on Housing and Homelessness, Dr. Jorge Sousa, assistant professor in the Faculty of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Alberta, community members, and national and international housing researchers for a day-long dialogue on ending homelessness.
The day will feature local speakers and include tours of Victoria Cool Aid and Our Place Societies. Serving as a pre-conference to CUexpo 2008, the tour—followed by a discussion forum—will explore practical actions for ending homelessness and highlight the role of universities and communities working together on these issues. Approximately 30 UVic faculty and students are involved in the inter-disciplinary working group on housing and homelessness.
The pre-conference is free but space is limited and pre-registration is required. Contact Kazia Armstrong at wghh@uvic.ca to register.
