UVic Commerce Student Part of an International Trade Mission

Shona Sinclair, an 18-year-old UVic commerce student, is one of three B.C. students selected to participate in the Junior Team Canada 2002 Trade Mission to the Republic of China and the Philippines next month. As the junior component of the Prime Minister’s Team Canada, the three-week long program is dedicated to providing youth, ages 16-25, with the skills, experience and knowledge necessary to become the new generation of business leaders. It shows the young leaders first hand the impact that trade and development have on Canada’s ability to successfully compete in the international marketplace. The 35 team members hope to create markets for existing and emerging technologies, merchandise and manufactured goods. Sinclair will attempt to secure markets for B.C. companies involved in the construction and building materials sector. “This mission offers an incredible opportunity to learn about international trade as well as domestic businesses,” says Sinclair. “I look forward to sharing my experiences and market research with my sponsors and other students upon my return.” For more information about the Junior Team Canada program visit www.gvconnects.com.
