University subject rankings show breadth of UVic strengths

Today, Times Higher Education (THE) released its 2020 world university rankings by subject for physical sciences and psychology, placing UVic programs in these areas among the Top 200 around the globe. These are in addition to previously announced Top-300 rankings for UVic in arts and humanities, computer science, and engineering and technology. 

The THE subject rankings comprise 11 broad subject areas which gather related disciplines together. For instance, THE’s physical sciences category includes the fields of chemistry, geology, environmental, earth and marine sciences, math and statistics, and physics and astronomy.

This year, THE is staggering the release of its subject rankings, which remain incomplete. In 2019, UVic was ranked among the world’s Top 300 universities in eight of THE’s 11 subjects, including business and economics, education and social sciences.
