In memoriam: Erin Chernick

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Dr. Erin Chernick.

Erin was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry. She joined the University of Victoria in July 2020 and will be remembered for the great work she was doing in versatile design, synthesis and potential applications of organic molecules with unique physical and electronic properties. Specifically, organic molecules that possess interesting electron-spin, open-shell, and electrochemical characteristics to study how these properties can influence organic device performance.

Her students will miss her teaching, and those who worked closely with her in the department or collaborated on research will feel the loss of her passion and commitment.

Erin passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the age of 41.Her obituary is available online.

Our condolences to Erin's family, friends and colleagues. We will plan a small gathering in early September once more of our community is back together.
