Experts on impact of court's decision on pipeline

The following University of Victoria experts are available to media to discuss the Federal Court of Canada’s decision that the National Energy Board assessment of the TransCanada Pipeline was flawed, leaving the project in limbo.  

Chris Tollefson (Law) is a professor of law at the University of Victoria and Executive Director of the Pacific Centre for Environmental Law and Litigation.  He is one of Canada’s leading environmental law scholars and has acted as counsel on many significant public interest environmental law cases. During the National Energy Board hearings into the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion, he represented Nature Canada and BC Nature. He was also counsel to BC Nature on the successful appeal of the Northern Gateway pipeline assessment to the Federal Court of Appeal. (ctollef@uvic.ca)  

James Lawson (Political Science) is an expert in political topics concerning the environment, forest and energy issues, and democratic accountability. He can discuss the Federal Court of Appeal’s recent ruling halting the Trans Mountain expansion project, particularly with respect to the wider politics of pipelines and resource exports.
