UVic’s first annual report on the Strategic Framework

After months of consultation with more than 2,500 members of the UVic community, the Board of Governors approved A Strategic Framework for the University of Victoria: 2018–2023 on May 29, 2018. It officially launched on Sept. 19, 2018.

Since that time, UVic faculty, librarians, staff and students across campus have worked diligently towards achieving the vision, goals and priorities laid out in the framework. The first annual Strategic Framework Implementation Report features some of the accomplishments made in the past year towards achieving the university’s shared vision and goals.

The report highlights major institutional initiatives—such as the launch of the world’s first Indigenous law program, the building of new student housing and dining facilities, and the creation of the Campus Cycling Plan—and also illuminates interesting work in portfolios that are not often in the spotlight.

The Digital Scholarship Commons in the library, for instance, is a great example of intensifying dynamic learning. The frequency that our researchers are cited shows our collective research excellence and impact. And the Speakers Bureau demonstrates how we’re engaging with the local community.

The report also honours UVic’s commitment to taking an accountable and transparent approach, and identifies opportunities where further progress can be made in implementing the framework. Guided by the framework, UVic is delivering on our vision to be the Canadian research university that best integrates outstanding scholarship, engaged learning and real-life involvement to contribute to a better future for people and the planet.
