Expert on impact on health from wildfire smoke

The following University of Victoria expert is available to discuss environmental health factors relating to wildfire smoke now occurring in many parts of the province:

Dr. Trevor Hancock (School of Public Health and Social Policy) is a public health physician and an environmental health expert who has devoted more than 30 years to internationally recognized health promotion projects, leadership and study. Hancock’s main area of interest is the relationship between human and environmental health.

The current incidence of forest fires burning across BC is due to climate change, says Hancock, and people can expect more and worse conditions to come. “We have to address the underlying causes of global ecological change, which are rooted in our economic, social and cultural belief systems.”

Hancock is available to speak on this issue July 6-10, between noon and 4 pm. Contact him via email at thancock@uvic.ca.
