A second Giller Prize for Esi Edugyan

Internationally acclaimed UVic writing alumna Esi Edugyan has won the 2018 Scotiabank Giller Prize for her latest novel, Washington Black. Edugyan wins $100,000 on this, the 25th anniversary of Canada’s richest literary award—and also earns the distinction of being one of only three authors to twice win the Giller Prize, alongside M.G. Vassanji and Alice Munro.

"on the Verge" writing contest

The annual "on the Verge" writing contest showcases and celebrates emerging UVic student voices with respect to equity, diversity and human rights. This year's theme is The Future. Students are encouraged to submit entries in the following categories: poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and spoken word. Contest winners will receive cash prizes. Submit your entry by Feb. 1, 2019.

Four UVic engineering grads landed dream jobs for Rocket Lab, working out of their office in Auckland, New Zealand. The company has found its niche through the design, manufacture and launch of smaller rockets to deliver ever-smaller satellites to low Earth orbit—rather than ferrying big payloads.
