CAVI lecture: Professor Brendan Burke, Thursday, 14 Sept. @ 7:30pm, CLE A212

The first meeting of the 2017-18 Academic year will take place on Thursday, 14 September at 7:30 pm in Clearihue, A212.

Professor Brendan Burke (Associate Professor, UVic) will present a lecture entitled, "The Hidden Cemetery at Eleon: Early Kings in Central Greece?”

Since 2011 the University of Victoria has been collaborating with Greek and American colleagues to excavate the site of ancient Eleon. Part of this project is run as an archaeological field school for students to get UVic credit (GRS 495) and to gain valuable professional training.

The work focuses on the Mycenaean period (1700-1050 BCE). This lecture will highlight results thus far and provide a preview of the 2018 season.

The Classical Association of Vancouver Island is UVic’s organization for people interested in the Greek and Roman worlds. Monthly lectures by local and international scholars take place at UVic. Everyone is welcome. To join CAVI and be on our mailing list, please send your name, contact information (address/email), and membership dues (10$/year, cheques payable to CAVI):
