Dr. Helen Bailey

Helen graduated from her Mechanical Engineering degree in 2006, from the University of Cambridge, UK, with a MEng, BA and MA (Cantab). She then moved up to Edinburgh to complete her PhD in “The influence of a nonlinear Power Take Off on Wave Energy Devices”. She was then involved in post-doctoral research in the hydrodynamic numerical modeling of Snapper, a new novel Wave Energy Converter (WEC), and in developing the next generation device for Marine Current Turbines.

After taking a year off to have a ridiculous amount of fun, she returned to Edinburgh University for a short post-doctoral research position, working with Trident Energy. Helen moved to Victoria, in June 2013 to start working with the WCWI on full scale WEC performance assessment.  When Helen’s not working she’s generally found outside trying to stay upright, either on a bike, in a kayak, whilst climbing or just while out walking.”

Research interests

Research interests are in numerical and physical modeling of WECs, PTO simulations, control strategies and survivability.
