Respected Vikes leader departs for new positon
Clint Hamilton, Senior Director of Athletics and Recreation (ATRS) at UVic, will be stepping down from his role on April 1, 2022 to accept the position of Vice-President Advancement at the University of New Brunswick (UNB).
Safe Sport affirms Vikes culture of excellence
The Vikes are heading into 2021 having implemented several significant initiatives to provide a safe and supportive environment for student-athletes to pursue high standards of sports performance.
Vikes Breakfast events surpass $6 million
The 13th Annual Vikes Championship Breakfast virtual event raised more than $525,000 for student-athlete scholarships. The 13-year event series have now cleared the $6.1 million mark since 2008.
Vikes initiatives promote safe sport principles
The Ring
Vikes athletics is advancing the package of initiatives announced earlier this year that further its commitment to providing a supportive high-performance athletic environment aligned with the principles of safe sport. Safe sport principles recognize that all athletes and coaches have the right to participate in a safe and inclusive training environment that is free of abuse, harassment or discrimination.
New Vikes initiatives

UVic is unveiling several initiatives that build on the Vikes' rich athletic tradition and its ongoing and deep commitment to providing a supportive high-performance environment for student athletes. The changes and additions aim to affirm, educate and support a culture of excellence for UVic athletics and provide improved resources for students and coaches.
Legends Cup Series
The Ring
On Aug. 28, UVic and UBC came together in Victoria to announce the launch of the Legends Cup Series, which will reignite the long-standing rivalry between the Vikes and Thunderbirds. The Legends Cup is the new trophy that will be awarded to one of the two universities based on a series of varsity athletic competitions this season.
Sexualized violence prevention
The Ring
UVic Vikes Athletics and Recreation, a department within Student Affairs, is partnering with the Office of Equity and Human Rights to champion sexualized violence prevention through an education and training campaign.
Dani Sinclair new head coach
The Ring
Dani Sinclair was introduced as the new head coach of the UVic Vikes women's basketball team April 18. A former Vikes product of long-time head coach Kathy Shields, Sinclair is no stranger to the program that boasts nine national titles. A former CIS national champion with the Vikes and Athlete of the Year at McMaster University, she brings a wealth of knowledge both as a decorated athlete and an experienced coach.
Clint Hamilton: Elected
The Ring
Clint Hamilton (athletics and recreation) has been elected as the next president of Canadian Interuniversity Sport. He will serve as president elect for one year, succeeding University of Regina’s Dick White in 2009 as president for two years. The Armstrong, BC, native is currently the Canada West Universities Athletics Association president. Hamilton was appointed director of Athletics and Recreation at UVic in August 2004, marking his return to campus where he had previously served as a student athlete and coach: he first enrolled at UVic out of high school in 1983 and was a member of the Vikings men’s basketball CIS National Championship team.
