2022 Leiden Rankings
The Ring
International research rankings released today by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands once again show that UVic researchers consistently publish a greater concentration of high-impact findings based on international collaborations than any other school or institute in North America—a distinction it’s held for 11 of the last 12 years. In mathematics and computer science, UVic is the top university in Canada, and number 50 globally, for its proportion of high-impact research findings. UVic also scores second nationally for research in physical sciences and engineering, closely tailing the University of Toronto.
June 8 marks World Oceans Day
Ocean staff and researchers are conducting work aimed at creating solutions that not only targets some of Canada’s current and future climate needs, but also provides real-world solutions that have the potential to change the world’s climate issues.

Eight UVic researchers are the "who's who" of influential scholars and named top one per cent in their fields for being highly cited in scientific publications.
New UVic Impact Chairs
The Ring
UVic welcomes two inaugural UVic Impact Chairs—Amanda Bates (biology) and Heather Castleden (School of Public Administration)—to five-year research positions.
Dismantling discriminatory system in science
A group of 24 scientists from across the world came together to explore long-standing problems associated with narrow definitions of success and impact in science. They advocate for change.
World Oceans Day 2021
