June 1—215+ remembrance ceremony

- University of Victoria

On June 1, everyone is invited to a ceremony to mark the one-year anniversary of the discovery by the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation of more than 200 unmarked graves at the Kamloops Residential School.

UVic will once again light a sacred fire to honour and acknowledge all those past and present affected by the mistreatment and tragedies that occurred in residential schools and the ongoing impact.  Community fire men will tend to the fire in the quadrangle in front of the library over four days.

We invite you to join us on Wednesday at 11:30 am to 1 pm to reflect and recommit to the work that is essential for reconciliation. Support resources will be available.

Also, pins with Carey Newman’s artwork made to honour the children who died in residential schools are available for sale in the UVic bookstore. Profits support the Elders Engagement Fund, Witness Blanket Project and Orange Shirt Day Society.
